NaZaleth 2

Posted on Friday 8 February

Ok troops.

The first NaZaleth blog's gettin kinda crowded.

I aint gonna lecture y'all but listen up.

'NaZaleth' has been phenomenal, thank you all.

(My bosses at Rock Radio are impressed.)

Take a step back and consider this:

I'll see Dan & Pete next week when they take Naz's 40th anniversary tour to Glasgow at the ABC.

I'm in touch with Manny via E-mail and dealing with Zals big let down to Rock Radio. (Details available elsewhere.)

I'll hug' em all, cos life's too short.

Start the new blog here, ok?

I'll never censor comments even if they're anti-me, in fact I love it when they are.

It's only Rock & Roll, come on in, if you think you're hard enough!

Oh, I can't delete entries so think before you press "Add Comment".

Keep on rocking in the free world.

Billy

Hey Billy, just been checking out the 'NaZaleth' blog.

Holy Crap!

Do these guys think before they write that stuff?

Top marks to you for letting them scrap it out but where's it heading?

F**kin nowhere!

(Thought I'd test you on the 'censor' thing.)

Since this station cannot make its broadcast available outside of the UK, I've heard Manny has decided to start his own radio show in the USA.

It's called "The Billy Rankin Show" featuring Manny Charlton

I just had a look at Nazaleth myself. Great to see those poor souls from Rampton who were messed about by the Care in the Community program have somewhere to post. Surely 'Real Naz Fan' and 'Manny's Dirty Dozen Tampons' aren't for real? Very sad if they are.

It's only music as the man says.

Billy, give the hugging a miss, it's well poofy (bet that gets censored). As Gene Hunt says, real man only make contact with manly handshakes!

Hi Billy; firstly enjoying immensly your show and thanx for playing the nazareth tunes also; far too little of that on the radio these days / I assume you will be playing their new record.

I was wondering when you referred to a "hissy fit" which left both you and manny sacked from the band; what is that all about?? -And is it Dan/Pete/Darrel who are the difficult ones, or is it just you & manny? :-) ? Just curious to find out the real story/ the different rumours have been going round the fan-forums for years but noone really wants to shed the real story but it would have been interesting to hear it (even top secrets gets revealed after times so after 20 years isn't it time that the cat got out?)

Keep on rocking Billy; lots of fond memories seeing you play your gibson loud'n'proud with the boyz'n'the band.

Don't stop,

'Gary

Hey guys!

Now this is exactly the tone I'm trying to set.

Bax, well done sir, mail me, it's been too long.

(Yeah, I'll have to trail thru 28 bogus mails but I'll know it's you.)

Dougie?

They ARE for real, and they're entitled to their opinion.

(Thanks for the 'poofy' advice, like I need it!!)

Gary?

Let's put this to bed....(Shit! Sorry Dougie.)

Manny and I got fired for the same reason.

Work it out, dude!

Oh, I smashed that Gibson some years back.

It's not big and it's not clever, but there you go.

I'm FINE now.

The rest of you, keep bloggin and I'll be No.1...again.

Tune in tomorrow, I'm on fire!

B.H. Fit Rankin.

Iīve been a Nazarethfan since 1983. I remember the time they released "The catch", and i expected something heavy and/or gripping material. I ended up very dissapointed, but managed to find a good song or two, and some guitarplaying that kind of got me of, (if you know what i mean:-)? To me, itīs obvious that Dan lost his voice somewhere between "2XS" and "Sound elixir". The music wasnīt the same as before either. BUT still, Nazareth became my housegods! My mates in school were looking at me and said: "Nazareth? whats that?"! And i looked forward to the day the would have succes again, (remember, this was the time of the return o Deep purple and the hardrockscene was growing stronger than ever before)! I guess i saw the potential of the group and i was in love with Dan Mccaffertīs voice, (and hoped that it would sound that it did before again). I thought (and still do) that Mannys guitarwork was VERY well performed and that the solos were very tastefully arranged but not as well played as others (Blackmore, Gilmoure etc.). At the time Manny was "replaced" with Billy, i realised that Billy was a far better player than Manny! But sorry Billy, "Every time i rains" is not what i want to hear from Nazareth. That in the combination with Danīs voice sounding very far from itīs best kind of got me down to earth about the whole thing! I remember that i felt proud over the fact that Nazareth never changed the original members, and thought that they were "Grown-ups" in a way other bands were not! I felt the same even when Billy was in the band. I remember Billy talked about just that in the fanzine "Razamanews", saying something like "In this band, we all seem to care for each other in a way that is not so common in this world" ! Well, that surely changed, didnīt it:-)?

Jimmy Murison is NOT the right guitarplayer for Nazareth! He might be a great player, but not with Nazareth! That was the case with Billy as well! Mannys gutarplaying during the eightees sounds sloppy and uninspired if you ask me and his solostuff aint doin it for me!

I donīt know about the facts regarding the departure of Manny and Billy. Iīm sure that both Manny and Billy was the ones who wrote most of the songs and took more responsibility. But here is the truth: Nazareth is Dan Mccafferty! Itīs an unfair world, (considering who makes all the work) but that is a fact! If it not was for Danīs one of a kind voice, Nazareth wouldnīt even have made a record deal! Anyway, that is my opinion! So, Iīm sure both Manny and Billy deserve any right to feel bitter and deserted, but thatīs the way it works i guess! This "Nazareth-with founding member Manny Charlton" thing is going to blow over in a New York minute! Even the "original" Nazareth are half dead, so Mannyīs band wonīt hold a chance in hell iīm afraid! Oh, but i still would buy any new material from both camps (if Manny ever get something out) and am very looking forward to "The Newz"!

Just the way i see it!!!

Well said.

Let's have more like you.

'Naz Fan'....'HumulusLupus'.

Billy here.

I don't feel bitter or deserted.

Good job, both of you.

Now, close your eyes and see where this leads!

Incoming!!........!

Yep Billy, agree with you, they are indeed entitled to their opinions, it's a pity they can't see anyone's else's point of view. Still, I guess it is good that Nazareth and Manny have such fans who are committed, or who should be committed, perhaps.

Humulus - heck of a good post!

I want to explain that i think that Billys guitarplaying with Nazareth was great! It was the songwriting i didnīt find suitable for Nazareth! Or maybe Pete and Dan wrote the material:-)? In that case: Iīm sorry Billy my man!

Regarding Jimmy M, iīm not a fan of 3 minute guitar-solos. Not in the beginning of a song, Not in the middle, or not as a stand-alone act. Definatly not if itīs made in chaingun tempo and with lack of that bluesfeel that i like! Manny kept it simple (as often), and that i thought was great! I never thought that Manny did it as good live as he did in the studio. I never figured out why?
