About Donald MacLeod

Donald Macleod’s interest in music began in earnest in 1979 when he began his music career playing guitar for ‘First Priority’, a band signed to MCA Records and who supported acts such as The Clash and Public Image Limited. In 1986, Donald co-founded ‘The Crows’, with whom he supported The Dammed and The Mission.

In the late eighties, Donald started a rock club night in Bathgate, West Lothian, called ‘The Cathouse’. Based on the old-fashioned principles of rock n roll, Donald’s foresight of this niche gap, against the background of the growing acid house scene, paid off and now forms the foundations of what is recognised as one of Scotland’s leading independent licensed trade operators and concert promoters – CPL Entertainment Group. Through CPL, Donald owns The Garage and The Cathouse venues in Glasgow as well as promoting the likes of The Deftones, Hard Fi, Fall Out Boy, Rammstein, Panic At The Disco, Motley Crue and Marilyn Manson.

In his devoted capacity as a Scottish music industry magnate Donald is the Chairman of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland Fundraising Committee. His zest and drive for this charity has helped double the money raised in previous years, from running annual events such as the Tartan Clef Awards that raise awareness and money for the charity while recognising talent in the Scottish music industry. In addition, Donald is an active member of the national Concert Promoters Association and a member of the Scottish Cross Party Music Group.

When he’s not mouthing off on Rock Radio, Donald can also be found in the Scottish Sun where he writes The Big Stuff, his weekly column of rants.
