Federer Prepares For Showdown With Murray

Roger Federer believes Andy Murray will have no problem coping with his grand slam final debut in New York tonight.British number one Murray completed a stunning four-set victory over world number one Rafael Nadal in last night's semi-final and now faces four-time defending champion and second seed Federer in the biggest match of his career.Recalling his first grand slam final - the 2003 Wimbledon championships which he won - Federer insisted Murray would be more relaxed in New York rather than if it was his home major at the All-England Club.

Burley Bears The Brunt As Scots Crash

George Burley still has every faith in Scotland's ability to qualify for the World Cup - but admits the task is already far more difficult after only one match.Ilcho Naumoski's goal after only five minutes proved to be decisive in Saturday's Group Nine opener in Macedonia, meaning the Scots now head to Iceland on Wednesday in desperate need of a win to kick-start the campaign.Burley's own record also looks far from impressive at the moment, with no wins from four games after succeeding Alex McLeish back in January.

Murray Can Make Scottish Sporting History

Scotland got behind tennis ace Andy Murray as he secured a place in his first grand slam final. The Scot beat Rafael Nadal in four sets at the US Open semi-final at Flushing Meadows in New York, last night, winning 6-2 7-6 4-6 6-4, and will meet Roger Federer in the final. It is the first time he has beaten the Spaniard, having played him five times before.Victory over Federer in the final would rank as one of the great achievements in the history of Scottish sport.
